Woodturning Class
Discover the joy of woodturning in this weeklong hands-on course. Whether you're new to the lathe or looking to sharpen your foundational skills, this class is ideal for both beginners and intermediate turners. We’ll cover essential safety practices, tool techniques, design fundamentals, and the properties of wood—building both confidence and creativity. By the end of the week, you’ll be equipped to turn a variety of projects on your own.
Planned Demonstration Projects Include:
Beads and Coves – Master the three essential shapes of spindle turning.
Bud Vases & Small Forms – Practice gouge control with a toothpick holder, twig pot, or bud vase.
Wood Stem Wine Glasses – Take on a more advanced turning project using prior techniques.
Wood Bowls – Learn the basics of bowl turning from raw blank to finished form.
Hummingbird Houses – Turn a decorative and functional outdoor accent.
Projects: This class will follow my standard beginner-level project structure, designed to help new turners build foundational skills and confidently progress in their woodturning journey. In addition to the core projects, I’ve included a list of optional projects. These may or may not be demonstrated during class, but this is your class—so if you’re interested in creating one of these or have another project in mind, we’ll gladly assist you. You’re welcome to make what inspires you.
Optional Projects
Mini-Bowls - Bird Ornaments - Christmas Trees - Rolling Pin
Threaded Acorn - Lidded Mason Jars - Earrings / Pendants
*Class projects may be adjusted slightly prior to class.
